Attih Soul
INTERVIEW
Tell us about one of the earliest memories of your career
I have some interesting memories of the earliest moments of my career (as an adult). I remember when I decided to return to singing in 2011. I hadn’t been singing for years and I thought it would be easy to return to singing at any time and still sound amazing. However I met a big shocker when I realized I wasn’t remotely as good as I thought myself to be and that the lack of practice caused music to leave me. It was a sad period but I resolved to do everything it took, to sing better.
I bought CDs of vocal coaches, watched YouTube channels and practiced a lot. Singing literally became an obsession that a lot of times I found myself singing while on the road. I had to stop habits like smoking and drinking, just to protect my voice. Honestly it wasn’t easy because my lifestyle changed, some friends thought I had lost my mind and some thought I was boring. I wasn’t in the choir at that time, so the only place I could go and test my progress was the karaoke. I would go to the karaoke so often that people thought I worked there. I enjoyed seeing myself grow and get better vocally.
The more I got better, the harder I worked and the more my confidence grew. In 2012 I participated in my first singing competition (Voice of Cross River) and made it to the Semi Finals. I kept growing and trying out my experience in Singing Shows until 2015 when I appeared on Nigerian Idol. I started learning how to play the guitar in 2016 and in 2017, I started writing some original songs. The rest is history.

How do you prepare yourself before you start a new project?
Well, I do a lot of visualising. Before I start a new project, I often have a mental picture of what the finished product could look like. I also do some planning regarding time, cost and requirements. Lastly, I keep an open/flexible mindset, understanding that things could happen and I might need to make changes.
If you had to define yourself to the world, what would the headline be?
The man whose passion never wavers
If you could write your own story, what would your destiny be? What goals would you like to achieve?
If I could write my story, I would like to achieve a music career so successful that it would be made into a movie to inspire others. My career story is a very interesting one. I would like to succeed on the biggest stages and let my story be told for many generations. I believe it will happen.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me, means touching lives with my gift. It means living a life and having a career worthy of emulation. I measure my success by how many people I can inspire, how many lives I can touch and by how many people can feel something positive each time they either watch me perform or listen to my music.
How has the perspective of your dreams and objectives changed over the years?
The perspective of my dreams have actually changed in a very positive way. Over the course of navigating my career as an independent artist, I have learned a lot. I have been able to harness my ability to think big, take responsibility for my career and above all remain a dedicated singer without compromising my values or losing myself to the tricks and deception of the industry. I have learnt that the resources we need to build our dreams, are all around us. One just needs to work hard, keep improving and make sure to keep optimising our brand image.
What has been the most important learning during your career?
Over the course of my career, here are the most important things I learned:
“Fame doesn’t equal success”
“To be happy and fulfilled as an artist, one must stay true to themselves”
“Self belief is very powerful and will take you places beyond your imagination”.
“The industry is filled with snakes and is very slippery. One must be careful”
“Never be desperate, that often leads to terrible mistakes”
“Your art is your greatest power, use it to express what you feel and not what society wants to see”
“Keep your talent away from politics”
The list goes on and on……
Any upcoming projects you can tell us about?
Yes. I am working on my debut studio album and I can’t wait to share
